A group of well-meaning Hwa Chong students (@projectriceup on Instagram) has initiated a project to support Food Bank, to address food shortage for the needy during this trying period.
Founded in 2012, Food Bank Singapore Ltd. is a registered Charity and Institution of a Public Character (IPC) in Singapore. It operates as a food bank that collects excess food from food suppliers and re-distributes them to organisations such as old folks' homes, family service centres and soup kitchens. The money will be used to purchase the meals, with each meal costing $5. Foodbank will distribute the meals nationwide, and they do not fix the donation to a specific beneficiary group!
In addition to fundraising, there will be a food donation drive on the weekend of 30-31 May 2020. Volunteer drivers are needed to pick up the food from donor homes and deliver directly to one of many Food Bank drop-off points.
How the alumni can help: 1. Promote awareness 2. Monetary donation through https://www.giving.sg/campaigns/projectriceup (they are tax deductible!)
3. Contribute
food through the donation drive
4. Register as a volunteer driver
